The Akabane method of diagnosis and treatment is very simple
and easy to perform. It is particularly effective for pain.
Preface
Akabane's invention of the "subcutaneous needle" was not only beneficial for his own treatment method, but it has also been used for the general treatment of Reactive points and chronic pain conditions. "Subcutaneous" or "intradermal needles" can be difficult for the novice to insert on sensitive patients if the technique is not done correctly. Although, leaving the subcutaneous needles in the skin for 3-5 days is desirable for obtaining a continuous treatment effect, this practice is not recommended for patients who are susceptible to infection, such as those who are immunocompromised; furthermore, professional organizations and authorities governing acupuncture licensure in some regions may consider the leaving of needles embedded in the skin as inadvisable or against the
scope of practice. A compromise solution to leaving the needle embedded for 3-5 days is to leave the needle embedded while the patient is in the clinic, and then replace it with a small metal ball just before the patient departs the clinic.
